The Humane Society of Northeast Georgia’s 15th annual Art with Heart Gala is quickly approaching with what is described as the non-profit’s largest event of the year.

The event will take place Saturday, Feb. 24, from 7 to 11 p.m. at Lanier Technical College’s Ramsey Conference Center in Gainesville.

The gala, presented by Genesis Biosciences, provides critical funds for animals in the shelter’s care and community.

“It is an art auction, both live and silent auction items,” Humane Society Executive Director Allison Mayfield told AccessWDUN. “It’s probably one of the biggest art auctions in the city. We also have a great dinner planned, some fun games planned. We have a dance floor this year … we probably have about $80,000 worth of items to bid on.”

The art auction will end at about 9:30 p.m. The attendee with the best Met Gala-inspired costume will also win a prize.

“It raises about $250,000 [annually] that goes into the care of the animals that we take in,” Mayfield said. “We take in about 1500 to 1700 animals every year.”

Mayfield said they were expecting about 400 people for the 15th annual event. She said the event is also important when it comes to public awareness.

“A lot of people still don’t even know that we’re around, or they confuse us with Hall County Animal Services,” Mayfield said.

DR. WALLACE: I’m a teenager who likes to doodle and paint, but my father thinks it’s a waste of time. My mother is quite artistic, and she’s a fantastic decorator in our home. She has a keen and tasteful eye for decor and fashion, but my father is more rigid and less interested in the arts.

My mom recently told me painting and creating art can be beneficial for a young person. Can you confirm this? If so, I’d like to show my letter to you and your reply back to me to my dad so he might ease up on telling me I’m wasting my time. — I Like to Paint, via email

I LIKE TO PAINT: I agree with your mother that you are indeed not wasting your time. Painting can nurture brain activity, and this has been supported by research on this topic.

Think about how a child learns to use a crayon to color in a coloring book. Even the child’s first rudimentary scribbles serve an important function in advancing eye-hand coordination and cause the brain to engage in cognitive processing. Even young children who take the time to draw pictures demonstrate better concentration and focus. This benefit continues throughout life’s development, and the teen years also derive a good benefit accordingly.

Creating art has positive effects on the human body both mentally and physically. It boosts creativity, soothes anxiety and elevates self-esteem. I side decidedly with your mother on this topic.

DR. WALLACE: I’m going to be hosting a party for several of my fellow students to celebrate a special event next month. I’m not experienced as a host at all.

Since this is my event, to be held on a Saturday afternoon into the early evening, everyone else in my family

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) – An Eau Claire boutique and a non-profit are joining forces with Clothes for a Cause.

News Release: New for 2024, Shine On Boutique has put a Give Back process in place for Nonprofits, and Fierce Freedom has been selected to launch “Clothes for a Cause” throughout the month of March.

“We couldn’t pass up this opportunity,” said Joyce Orth, Fierce Freedom’s community engagement specialist. “Ten years ago, I met Fierce Freedom when I held a birthday for a cause event to celebrate my (March 1) 55th birthday. My goal was to raise $550 for the nonprofit and, with the help of my friends, Sandy Wagener, Sandy’s Clothing & Art, hosted the event, and many of the shops in Banbury building 13 came on board giving a percentage of sales that day. About $1200 was raised! Now, 10 years later, fashion brings us together again to raise funds to support Fierce Freedom’s work to end the cycle of human trafficking and exploitation.”

Enlisting the help of friends in the New York fashion industry, designer gowns and cocktail dresses are on their way and will be available for purchase in addition to lots of gently used upscale items from local friends!

“I’m excited to collaborate with Fierce Freedom to launch Clothes for a Cause. I’ve been inspired by their impactful work ever since I was first introduced to them during my time in the nonprofit sector. Their dedication to educating and empowering the community plays a crucial role in combating human trafficking.” Boutique owner, Kayla Midthun.

In addition to regular shopping hours, Shine On will host a mocktail sipping event on March 3, 6:00-7:30 pm to kick-off Clothes for a Cause.

Clothes for a Cause will run throughout March. Event dates and shopping hours are available

LENOX, Mass. On Saturday, June 10, and Sunday, June 11, the town of Lenox will host the 2023 Spring Art Walk event.

The event is a collaboration with the Lenox Chamber of Commerce, the Lenox Cultural District, and Gordon Fine Arts. The event will run Saturday 10:00 am- 5:00 pm and Sunday 11:00- 4:00 pm.

This is the 6th Lenox Art Walk to be held. The Art Walk is a curated show of artists and artisans who showcase their work throughout downtown Lenox. The Artists’ tents will be set up along the Main Street sidewalk and into Lilac Park. A wide range of Artists representing various mediums are invited to display their artwork and artisan products over the two-day event. Offerings include paintings, drawings, photographs, ceramics, fiber arts, jewelry and clothing.

The event, which began in Fall of 2020 in an effort to introduce high-end Artists to the residents and visitors of Lenox has grown to upwards of 50 Artists with over 3000 attendees. The previous Art Walks have been well received by the town businesses and hugely successful due the caliber of Artists that attend. These artists attract a discerning Art crowd that also enjoys shopping and dining in Lenox.

“Our goal is to continue merging Art and Commerce in a beautiful setting like the Berkshires that attracts people who have a great appreciation for what is offered at our shows. For this Spring Art Walk,  we are having to turn Artists away because the event has become so popular. We want all of the Artists to make money, so it is important to maintain a show size that allows that,” said Sue Gordon of Gordon Fine Arts.

The sun was shining brightly on the plush gardens of Alliance Française de Bulawayo, where a celebration of art, fashion, music, and literature was taking place. The audience was dressed in black, but there was no sorrow or sadness in the air. Instead, there was a feeling of excitement and anticipation, as guests waited for the event to begin.

Langelihle Bhule, the resolute dynamite, was the driving force behind the launch. She had organised everything almost single-handedly, with the help of her uncle and the support of Alliance Française.

The event was a three-in-one celebration, featuring an art exhibition, the launch of her clothing line, Solrika, and her debut novel, Resolute Dynamite.

The theme of the event, held last Wednesday, was “Ignite the Light in You!” – a call to inspire and succeed. Langelihle took to the stage and blessed the audience with a song from Whitney Houston, to which the crowds ululated and whistled. The colour theme of the event was black, which Langelihle described as a versatile colour that can be easily blended with other colours to create a stylish and elegant look.

Langelihle is a woman of many talents, with a great fashion sense and a passion for writing.

When asked about her purpose in life, she explained, “I am the sun, and it is through the sun that there’s life in plants and humanity. I believe my purpose in life is to inspire others that I meet, especially young women. It is never easy to start, but one has to be determined.”

A couple of weekends ago, I attended a fashion show put on by Dallas Fashion Week, which I wasn’t even aware was a thing, nor do I know how long it’s been a thing. The whole event is a bit mysterious to me, even though I was literally in the audience.

On its website, Dallas Fashion Week only describes itself as “a new international platform that creates a bridge between fashion designers, artists, and the U.S. market.” They also state that Dallas deserves to be recognized as an international fashion destination, and while the whole event seemed to lack organization, information, and structure, I agree that there’s no reason Dallas shouldn’t be acknowledged as a city with abundant fashion potential.

This was demonstrated in the clothing showcased during the event’s kickoff fashion show at Markowicz Fine Art. The collections were diverse, intricate, and unique. There were puffy-sleeved cocktail dresses, matching iridescent suits, vibrant swimwear, and more. I couldn’t imagine most of it being worn in everyday situations, but I admired the aloof distinctiveness of the designs. The clothes were just as much “art” as any sculpture or painting I’ve ever seen.

Another thing that caught my eye on the Dallas Fashion Week website was that the event would contribute 20% of ticket sales to Okhmadyt Children’s Hospital in Kyiv, which is, to say the least, an incredibly noble objective.

The logistics of the event itself seemed a bit disjointed. The fashion show I attended was held at Markowicz Fine Art, which is a beautiful gallery but was definitely not large enough to accommodate attendees. Everyone was shoulder to shoulder with no wiggle room. There was no seating, and navigating to the bathroom or bar was a feat I imagine to be on par with climbing Everest. The lack of
